The river passes first through hilly country for several kilometres, then through more open undulating grazing land. In the first 8km there are grade 2 rapids and several races. After this is smooth water with an appreciable flow, although some of the pools are quite long. Take care on sharp curves not to be swept into trees on the outside of the bends. the Department of Primary Industries (LANDS) did have a very comprehensive map of a paddle trail from Childowlah to Wagga. But the current NSW government have withdrawn its publication whilst they review the future of free access to rivers and crown land in NSW.
